Obituary of Murriel Tobin

Murriel A. “Myrt” Tobin, 89, of 1006 E. Howery Ave., DeLand, Florida, formerly of Cazenovia, died January 31, 2016 at Florida Hospital in Deland. Myrt was born in Lincklaen, N.Y. on April 15, 1926 to Lee and Lila Murray and graduated from Cazenovia Central School. She married Leon Tobin on August 27, 1949 at the First Methodist Church of Cazenovia. Myrt started her career in the food industry as a cook for Pete Stucker's "Ham That Am Ham" in Chittenango. She also fulfilled that position at Murriel Van Dusen's "Hotel Chittenango" before being employed by the Chittenango Central School District, where she worked her way up to head cook at Bolivar Road Elementary School - a position she retained for many years until relocating to Florida. In Florida, she again went to work for the school system in DeLand, as well as becoming a great asset running the kitchen of the Elks Lodge. Upon her retirement she volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Murriel was predeceased by her husband, Leon who died in 2000; her siblings, Maxine, Lyga, Lyal, Verl, Carroll, Everett, and Myrtis White. She is survived by her son, Richard and his wife, Kay of Chittenango; her daughter, Janis Tobin of DeLand, FL; grandsons, Adam Tobin and Geoffery Brown and his family as well as many nieces and nephews. Graveside services are 2 p.m., Sunday, October 2, 2016 at the Union Cemetery beside the Welsh Church on Welsh Church Road in Nelson N.Y.
