Green/Natural Burials
Michael E. Brown Funeral Services is one of a select number of funeral homes who meet the criteria for providing green/natural funeral services by the Green Burial Council; a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization working to encourage environmentally sustainability in the field of funeral service.
As a Green Burial Council approved provider of Green/Natural Burials our green/natural burial package allows for a funeral to take place without the use of toxic and non-biodegradable materials/chemicals. It includes our services for body preparation, storage, transportation, graveside services and the filling out of all necessary documentation, permits and certificates. We offer Green Burial Council approved hand made wood caskets manufactured by the Florence Casket in Florence, Massachusetts which contain all natural biodegradable materials.
There is great debate over the use of the word "green" when discussing burial. The Green Burial Council believes cemeteries, preserves, and burial grounds can broadly be considered green if they meet the following criteria: caring for the dead with minimal environmental impact that aids in the conservation of natural resources, reduction of carbon emissions, protection of worker health, and the restoration and/or preservation of habitat. Green burial necessitates the use of non-toxic and biodegradable materials, such as caskets, shrouds, and urns.
