Obituary of Eugene Doering

Please share a memory of Eugene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Eugene Doering, 88, of Cazenovia, passed away peacefully Thursday evening at Francis House with his loving wife by his side. He was born in Germany in 1930 and earned his Master’s Degree in Architecture from the Technical University in Gdansk and studied sculpture at the Art Academy in Warsaw, Poland. Eugene designed numerous architectural projects in Germany, Austria, Poland and for 22 years in Syracuse. In his retirement, he embarked upon an intensely creative new life devoted to sculpture, where at the Syracuse University Comart facility he created a prodigious collection of work in highly polished bronze and aluminum. Eugene has exhibited in New York City, Syracuse and Europe, where, in 2009 a solo exhibit of 40 abstract sculptures was presented in the newly opened Art Museum of Gdynia, Poland. He has opened his home studio to visitors on the Cazenovia Art Trail since its inception in 2012.

Eugene has been an active skier, and sailor, and a longtime member of the Willow Bank Yacht Club. He has enjoyed sailing in the Caribbean and ski adventures that took him to all the great ski destinations in the United States and Canada. Eugene loved music and dancing, and his 40 year preoccupation devoted to landscaping, planting and protecting very special trees on his six acres of land upon which he built his Cazenovia home.

He is survived by his wife, Jean of Cazenovia and his sister, Irmgard (Adam) Bialas of Germany. Eugene was predeceased by his parents, Leon and Felixa Schroeder Doering and by a sister, Lidia Solek.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 7, 2019 in St. James Catholic Church, 6 Green Street, Cazenovia. Burial will be in the spring at St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Michael E. Brown Funeral Services, 2333 Fenner Rd., Cazenovia.
