Lyle Robert Rowland, 93, of Chittenango, passed away after a brief illness with his children by his side on Saturday, April 23 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica. Born in Syracuse on January 26, 1923, son of the late, Helen Everingham and Harvey Rowland, Lyle enjoyed his childhood in Cardiff and the Nedrow area where he had a passion for the outdoors. He became a firearm enthusiast, skilled marksman and remarkable mechanic. Lyle enlisted in the Army and served in Europe during WWII. After the war, Lyle used his skills as a heavy duty mechanic employed by State Equipment Company and was a member of the International Union of Operators Engineers, Local 545, Syracuse, retiring in 1988. As well, Lyle unselfishly gave his time to others. In addition to his parents, Lyle is predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Marjorie Patricia; a daughter Pamela; two sons, William and Richard; and by a sister, Shirley. Lyle was the fourth generation of his family lineage. He is survived by two sons, Ron and his wife, Elizabeth of Hannibal, and Robert and his wife, Patricia of Georgetown; a daughter, Jill Bennett and her husband, Todd of Cazenovia; nine grandchildren, Michael, Mark, Sarah, Joshua, Zachary, Jacob, Patricia, Robert and Becky; 15 great grandchildren, Emma, Caleb, Taylor, Ethan, Uriah, Nora, Claire, Robert, Stephen, Whitney, Jaimie, Peyton, Joshua, Jessica and Erica. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Michael E. Brown Funeral Services, 2333 Fenner Road, Cazenovia. Burial will be at St. James Cemetery, Cazenovia following the service. Calling hours are 4 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 27 at the funeral home.
