Kathryn, Emma, Marcia, Michelle, and Lance - I just saw the message about Kirk's passing. I'm so sorry to hear about it. I considered Kirk a friend and at times a mentor for building relationships with co-workers and plowing through problems when they arose. He helped me immensely while we worked together. I enjoyed my friendship with him and the Wardell family. Sending love. - Mark Kielar

Marcia,
Ken Kunkel forwarded a copy of Kirk's notice and it brought back many memories of East Syracuse and Central Square a good fifty years ago. I was sad to hear that Kirk had succumbed to such a destructive disease. I also learned of both Bruce and Lynne's passings. Your family is in my thoughts. May God bless you all and help you find peace.

I had the pleasure of working with Kirk when he became a Field Agent with the Central NY Technology Development Organization (CNYTDO). I assisted technology-based businesses to apply for SBIRs (federal technology innovation grants) so I did not work directly with him, but he was always interested in the projects that each of his peers in the office was working on. He was never without a smile and an uplifting greeting. He will be sorely missed as a truly wonderful human being and professional in all he did.

I was so shocked and immensely saddened to hear about the loss of Kirk. He was a very important person in my life. Kirk was such an exceptional and rare human being, who had such great integrity, and was an outstanding leader at work. Kirk believed in me and my abilities; and he gave me the confidence to succeed professionally in Syracuse and later in Canada. There are very few people, who make such a difference in your life as Kirk did in mine. He was always so positive, and very inspirational. Kirk had such strength of character, and was so supportive, professionally and personally. He even travelled to Canada to be at our wedding. The world has truly lost one of the greats. My wife Theresa and I send our very heartfelt condolences and sympathy to Kirk’s wife Kathryn and daughter Emma during this very difficult time. Our hearts and prayers are with you.
Love,
Bernd and Theresa

Kirk was my friend.
I will miss him because he was generous of spirit and appreciated what everyone brought to the table. We worked together on several projects including those at the Glenwood Association , Marquardt , and the Cazenovia Preservation Foundation. He wanted to and did make a difference and strived to put good ideas into practice whether they were his ideas or someone else’s. He me feel good about myself because I knew how special he was and he chose to be my friend. I will miss him dearly.

Kirk was an amazing leader, mentor and teacher. He inspired you to be better. He was always optimistic and positive. When I interviewed with him for my job at Marquardt, and he shared his vision and what the company was ready to do, I was hooked. His enthusiasm was infectious. I knew it was going to be challenging and exciting. He hired people not just for their experience and knowledge, but for their capabilities and willingness to learn and grow. He did so much for the people who worked for him and for the manufacturing community to support training and development. He recognized and talked to every team member on the floor and in the offices. Just a great person all around. I am so saddened to hear of his passing. Deepest sympathies and many prayers for his family and loved ones. May your memories and love support you in your time of grief.

It is with great sadness that I learned of Kirk's passing. In the years I worked with him at Marquardt and then after, Kirk was always a breath of fresh air when he came into any situation. Kirk had a belief that if a team tried hard enough, anything was possible.
Although we didn't agree on everything, he always showed a respect for other people and their feelings, and that is what made him so special. I remember him being very concerned about a person that was let go from the company, and stayed in contact to try to help the person get situated in a new job. Not many people do things like that, and it teaches you the importance of people over a job.
Rest in peace Kirk, and you wills always be forever young.

Such fond memories of Kirk when he was a neighbor in Gibsonville, NC. Going to a movie and then to Sonic in the back of the Bronco he fixed up, like we were high schoolers is a funny memory we treasure. We followed him to San Francisco for his try at the dot.com business, and then to NY when he really hit his stride. Fun visits all! We always had such fun and we will miss him. We hold Kathryn and Emma in our hearts as they go on with life without him.

I had the good fortune to first know Kirk when he was 19. Kirk was a brother to so many people beyond just his family. He was a brother to me. He went by many nicknames and had nicknames for many. He had a style that all who knew him well could only be described as "Kirk." There are a lot of "greats" associated with him but my personal favorites are brother and Uncle to my kids. They miss him dearly.

So very sorry to hear this. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Wardell family. I was part of the staff with Kirk when Pass&Seymour/Legrand opened the manufacturing plant in Greensboro, NC. We had a great time and it was quite an experience. We began working out of a construction trailer with old metal desks and chairs while the facility was being upfitted. I remember one day one of the managers tired of the old metal chair brought in his office chair from home. He put it together sat in it and promptly fell over backwards! Kirk said with a smile “And that’s our engineering manager!!!” Needless to say we were all laughing so hard it brought tears to our eyes. Kirk was just that one in a million person you get to work with. He was largely responsible for the culture developed in that plant which felt like a family where all wanted to do well for each other. He will be missed.

I am so saddened to hear this. He literally is one of my favorite people I have ever known. I worked closely with Kirk in Syracuse and Greensboro, NC with Pass & Seymour. He was the best Manufacturing leaders, I ever met. He was so good with the people in the factory. I had so much fun working with him. He was one of the few, who truly understood the feelings of the people and truly cared about everyone. I lost a little touch with him over the years, but we would connect now & then. My heart and prayers go out to Kathyrn and his daughter, and family. He was the best!!!!

Ahh, Kirk!! Stick Man!! Kirk was a great buddy when I was in my last years in High School. His smile was to die for and he was just an all around super person to be around.
He hired my daughter……way down the road as an intern and this action really started her career!!!!! ( not sure if he knew it was my daughter) When ever being around Kirk he just had the greatest demeanor, you just knew you were important!!! Going to miss you stick man ❤️
