I'm a lawyer who represented many criminal defendants before Justice Corpin in Smithfield Town Court. He was an exemplary judge and an exemplary man. He demonstrated exactly why our system of town lay justices, who don't necessarily have to be lawyers, works. Michael knew absolutely everybody -- and everybody knew and respected him. He built on this trust to do an outstanding job of judging. I was surprised and greatly saddened to learn of his passing. I'll really miss him. A great loss.

The grey and royal purple uniform of the NYSP, has long been recognized as one of the finest in law enforcement. From the 1980’s through 2010+, troopers such as Sgt. Myke Corpin and T. Sgt. Charles Dawkins helped build that reputation in southern Madison County. They had our respect and admiration because they were committed “To Serve and Protect.” Myke and Charlie were more than NYS Troopers. They were our protectors, our neighbors, and our friends. To Mike and Charlie, we say Rest in Peace.

My first memories of Mike were when I was just a young girl. I was living in Morrisville. My next door neighbor Mr Dale Crisp was his co-worker at Troop D at that time. My father was waiting for a heart transplant. Mike and my father and mum were friends. Mike would come to my volleyball games and root for me and our team. Mike instilled in me as a young woman to always stand up for what is right. He also instilled in me that if I knew something was right to stand my ground no matter how hard it was. He was a man to admire. He taught many including myself good foundational skills to live by. I thank him for always being a man to look up to. I thank his family for sharing such a great man with so many. Mike you were a pillar to our community. Your presence will be greatly missed. This is a sad time for so many of us. GOD SPEED.... TELL MOM AND DAD I LOVE THEM AND MISS THEM. TODAY THE HEAVENS ARE HAVING A PARTY LIKE NEVER BEFORE. JMJ.

Me and my 5 siblings grew up in Peterboro during the '70's. Mike and his brothers were a positive influence on all of us kids. He was several years older than me but treated me as though I was one of his peers. It wasn't until many years later that it became obvious to me that he treated everyone that way. Mike was warm and gracious, had a gentle smile and reassuring presence. It's been many years since I last saw or spoke to him and there's a sense of dismay that I didn't have the opportunity to be closer with him and his family. The world is so much the better for having had Mike in it. The same can be said of the entire Corpin family
When I first heard of Mike's passing I was looking for his obituary and found the one for his father which was on the Oneida Dispatch website. Here's the link to that. https://www.oneidadispatch.com/obituaries/francis-russell-corpin-peterboro-ny/. (You may need to copy and paste the link?) Having had little recollection of Mike's dad I was intrigued and grateful that our little town had such a compassionate man in our midst even though it wasn't know to me. So it's no wonder Mike and his brothers became the men they were and still are.
Thank you Mike for your patience, your guidance, your kindness and your authentic love for all. Your memory will live on indefinitely!

To the Corpin Family,
Mike was the first to scold me a parent for rooting to loud when he then refereed VVS youngsters in the Skills and Drills Program.
One of our most favorite pictures if of Mike is with my daughter talking about a game when she was 7 yrs. old. Now 24. I got to know Mike as my daughters grew and played sports throughout their VVS Carrers. His compassion as well as genuine care for these athletes was immeasurable. As an officer of VVS Sports Boosters I got to know Mike through a different avenue, yet his care and compassion was the same.
Losing Mike will leave a place no one can fill for all the athletes lives he touched.
I cannot even begin to imagine your grief in your loss.
Thank you for sharing him with so many Athletes and Parents.
May you find comfort knowing he was truly a gentle man.

I'm so sorry you, and your family lost Mike. I know in my heart we all lost a great man. Any time we saw each other we would speak about the families first, then from there we'd laugh! Talking about people, places, things. I've known him and his family for years, all of them always made me smile. I know this is very, hard to get through. Just remember I know he's still with you all, trying to help you all remember how to laugh! I'll miss you Mike! Margaret

Also, a member of the 160th class at Brockport, we were terrorized by Trooper Corpin on a daily, and sometimes even nightly basis. He would summon all recruits downstairs with a whistle that drove us crazy. And the first couple months he was one main SOB, but as time went on, it was apparent he wasn’t being mean, just to be mean, well, that’s probably not entirely true, but he drove us like crazy because he cared. He wanted us all to come home safe each and every day of our careers. Trooper Corpin went from being a strict disciplinarian with a great sense of humor to an even greater friend when we graduated and took to the field. To this day when any members of the 160th get together, there will always be great stories about MIIKE Corbin to be shared. His slapstick, humor and funny lines will never be forgotten. My condolences to you, Patti, and the entire family and thank you for sharing MIIKE with all of us.
Sgt Corbin, may you rest in peace.

As agraduate of the 160th class of the NYSP I have many good memories of Tpr. Corpin being a cadre there (Brockport class) Mike had a wonderful sense of humor that made the rigors of the academy easier to take. He could take a joke as well as dish one out. That quality was rare amongst the cadre but I was priviledged to have gone through during his tenure. Without a doubt he made the world a better place during his time on earth. May he rest in peace!!!
To his family, i am sorry for your loss, take comfort in that he has moved on to a better place in the company of his creator.

I fondly remember playing basketball at the high school for our weekend pick up games and he was nothing less than a role model at all times, even if the games got a little heated! He was the voice of reason and maturity and I’ll never forget the impact those moments had made on me and the gang. Class act indeed! Rest easy my friend.

I met Mike on the sidelines of Brockport Field Hockey. I enjoyed every minute I was with him. He was the type of person you gravitated to. He was always right in the middle of the fun. His smile and laugh were the best. He made me laugh so hard that the next day my sides/stomach would hurt. It was a good hurt. I have not seen him in about 10 years. I just know if we ran into each other it would pick up right were we left. This picture is exactly how I will remember him and how I will
always remember him. He made a difference in this world. Peace and prayers to Emily and family.

I first met Mike while in second grade at the old Peterboro school where 1st and 2nd graders shared the same class and teacher. We grew up on the black top court behind the school, as well as the baseball field. My memories of Mike seem to be stuck there. And that's just fine. He was alot of fun to play ball with and had a determination even as a young boy. He definetly was a winner.
Playing high school baseball with Mike always brought a confidence to me because Mike was behind the plate, right where he should be.
After both of us grew up and went our different ways, coming back together was always a special treat to see that smile and catch up. I loved Mike as I love his whole family. I always admired Mike for what he accomplished during his life. Being black and becoming an adult in the 70's did not alter him from "being Mike". Mike touched many many peoples lives in all sorts of ways. If you don't know Mike like I do, think of this; An aditouruim has to be used to honor this man!
