Obituary of Olive Avery
Olive Avery of Cazenovia passed away peacefully November 3, 2025, at the age of 97. Mrs. Avery was a school bus driver for 30 years with the Cazenovia Central School District. She and her husband operated their farm in Cazenovia for 59 years.
She was a determined woman and a mother hen to all, especially the children on her bus. People often described her as small but mighty. Nobody was ever going to tell her that she could not do something. At 97, she still mowed her 3-acre lawn once a week all summer long on her zero turn mower and rode her ATV every day to the mailbox. Every Sunday (including November 2) she prepared a huge meal with all the trimmings for the family and anyone they brought along. There was always plenty. She was offended by offers of a dish to pass or for help in preparing these feasts. She had always maintained she was going to die in her sleep. And she did.
She enjoyed the outdoors and cherished the time spent camping with her family. She loved raising chickens and using their eggs for cooking and baking.
Mrs. Avery was active in the Cazenovia Wrestling Booster Club as well as the Mohawk Valley Wrestling Booster Club well into her 80’s.
Mrs. Avery is survived by her daughter, Marlene (Raymond) Westcott; her son, Calvin (Peggy Coleman) Avery; grandchildren, Tod (Elizabeth O'Connor) Avery, Jody (Renea Wood) Avery, Travis Westcott and Trevor Westcott; great grandchildren, Abigail (Hunter) Way, Josie Avery, and Jace Westcott; and a great, great grandson, Kasey Way. She is predeceased by her husband of 71 years, Leland Avery and by a son, Leland Gene Avery.
There will be no calling hours or services per her request. Condolences for the Avery family may be left at www.michaelebrownfuneralservices.com.
