Obituary of Carol Resnick

Please share a memory of Carol to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carol Frances Resnick (née Mancini) died in Syracuse on Monday, March 30th, after a long battle with early-onset dementia. She was 71. Carol was born in Syracuse on December 26th, 1943 to Michael and Luisa (née Romeo) Mancini. After graduating from St. John the Baptist High School in 1961, she moved to Boston, Massachusetts and completed an AA in Visual Arts from Dean College in 1964. Carol worked at Giardini/Russell Advertising, where she met her husband, Stephen A. Resnick. They married in 1966 in Rockport, Massachusetts and welcomed their first child, Elise M. Resnick, in 1967. Carol returned with her family to her hometown of Syracuse later that year. Upon her return to Syracuse, she worked at the Film Library in the Center for Instructional Communications at the University. She attained her BA in Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University in 1974, followed by an MA in Information Studies in 1975. In 1976 the family moved to Cazenovia, NY where she and Stephen devoted their efforts full-time to their growing rare book and ephemera business. Over the next 30 years, they became distinguished dealers and respected experts in the field. Carol was on the Board of Directors of the Ephemera Society of America and served as President of the Board for 4 years. In addition to serving her professional community, she was an integral part of Cazenovia life, assisting at the High School's library, donating to the Public Library, and creating herbal arrangements for a local business, The Shop of Herbs and Wool. She was an integral member of the Cazenovia Questers, a group that focused on the study and preservation of local history and antiques. She also worked as a freelance graphic designer, branding local and regional businesses as well as designing and editing professional publications. Carol's second child, Alexandra L. Resnick, was born in 1987 in Syracuse. She was a caretaker of people and things, nurturing all her family with unfailing commitment and devoting her professional life to the study and preservation of historical objects. She painstakingly restored two historic homes, surrounded them with beautifully landscaped gardens, and designed their interiors exquisitely. Her refined eye was evident in her art and photography, her voracious appetite for life-long learning in her ever-enlarging personal library. She was a talented cook and, true to her Italian heritage, shared holidays marked by extravagant meals with family and friends. While devoting herself to those around her, she was sustained by an adventurous spirit and acute sense of humor. Her sophistication, impeccable taste, and attention to detail were visible in every aspect of her life. Carol is survived by her husband, Stephen, her daughters, Elise Resnick and Alexandra (Alexander) Poterack, her brother, Michael Mancini. A celebration of her life will be held in Cazenovia, NY on May 24th, 2015. Condolences may be sent to the family at 2783 West Lake Road, Cazenovia, NY, 13035. Donations in Carol's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org or the Central New York Chapter at 441 West Kirkpatrick Street, Syracuse, NY, 13204, or to the Cazenovia Public Library at 100 Albany Street, Cazenovia NY 13035.
