Obituary of Casper R. Becker

Casper R. “Beck” Becker, 98, of Cazenovia passed away at home Monday, February 15, 2016. He was born in Kingston, New York, a son to the late Benjamin and Florence Becker and graduated from Columbus High School in Poughkeepsie in 1933. When World War II began Beck enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. During his military career, Beck received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Ribbon, Army Commendation Medal and numerous Letters of Commendation. On his final tour of duty he was an instructor at the Manlius Military Academy and later retired from the U.S. Army as a Master Sergeant in 1961. Following his retirement, he ran the bookstore at Manlius Military Academy and later at Cazenovia College. He was a member of the Cazenovia Masonic Lodge #616, F & AM; was both a member and past president of the Civic Club and the Cazenovia Bowling League; was a member of the Cazenovia Golf Club; was a pitcher on the Cazenovia Town Baseball Team. In addition to his parents, Casper was predeceased by a brother, William Becker, and two sisters, Catherine DuPilka and Bernice Storm. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Susan A. Becker of Cazenovia; several nieces and nephews. Calling hours are Saturday, February 20 from 1 to 3 pm at Michael E. Brown Funeral Services, 2333 Fenner Rd., Cazenovia. Masonic and military services will be held following the calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Casper Becker may be made to CAVAC., P.O. Box 56, Cazenovia, NY 13035.
