David A. Shantal, 54, of Oneida, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday. He was born in Syracuse, one of nine children to Lloyd and Vivian Shantal and grew up in Fenner. Dave graduated from Cazenovia High School in 1979 and was a member of the I.U.O.E. Local 545, Syracuse. He was an equipment operator for 20 years with Callanan Industries in Canastota. Dave enjoyed camping, Harley-Davidson’s, spending time with his family and his two cats, Goober and Tuxedo.
Dave was predeceased by his father, Lloyd Shantal.
He is survived by his children, David Shantal, Jr. of Canastota, Ashley (Ben Kinney) Shantal of Oneida and Jason (Kayla) Baker of West Eaton; his mother, Vivian Shantal of Sheds; eight siblings, Linda Shetler of West Monroe, Bruce (Donna) Shantal of New Woodstock, Carol (Ken) Ortman of North Syracuse, Cathy (Brad) Straight of Sheds, Susan (Kenneth) Stewart of Morrisville, Joe Shantal of Georgetown, Cindy (Victor) Sparrow of West Monroe and Scott (Missy) Shantal of Kentucky; three grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Michael E. Brown Funeral Services, 2333 Fenner Road, Cazenovia. There are no funeral services.
