Stephen R. Smola, 31, of Fulton, died Monday at home. He was born in Syracuse and grew up in Mexico. Steve graduated from Oswego County BOCES and Mexico High School in 2003 where he participated in R.O.T.C. and was a member of their soccer and swimming teams. He then graduated from Alfred State College in 2005 from their truck and diesel technician program and was a Technical Service Manager. Steve loved snowmobiling, hunting and his current favorite pastime was maintaining his garden. He was a member of the Pathfinder Fish and Game Club.
Stephen was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Patricia Clavelli Elkin, who died in 1972 and Francis Elkin, Sr., who died in 1995.
He is survived by his fiancée, Melody Morrison and her son, Mason of Fulton; his mother, Tammy Elkin of Fulton, his father, Robert Smola of Central Square; a brother, Edward Koziel of Rochester; maternal grandmother, Sally Elkin of Oswego; paternal grandparents, Barb and Mike Smola of Jordan as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, October 3, 2016 with services to follow at the Fulton Alliance Church, 1044 State Route 48, Fulton. Private burial will be in Mt. Adnah Cemetery. Contributions in Steve’s memory may be made to Friends of Fulton Parks, P.O. Box 572, Fulton, NY 13069.
