Obituary of Jack Altmeyer

John W. “Jack” Altmeyer, Jr., 85, of Cazenovia, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon at the Grand in Chittenango. He was born in Boston, MA and graduated from Harvard University in 1951. Jack was a District Sales Manager with Alan Wood Steel Company in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania for 15 years before starting his own business, Altmeyer & Co. in 1977. Based in Cazenovia, Altmeyer & Co. was an independent sales concern that represented a variety of manufacturers engaged in servicing companies involved with steel. Jack operated the company until his retirement in 2011. He was a communicant and member of the choir at St. James Church. Jack was an avid golfer and a member of the Cazenovia Golf Club, a long term member of The Toastmasters and a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Jack also served as a board member with the Town of Cazenovia for 11years. He was predeceased by his brother, Paul Altmeyer. Mr. Altmeyer is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann Altmeyer of Cazenovia; three children, John (Dawn) Altmeyer of Mechanicsburg, PA., Mark (Sharon) Altmeyer of Princeton, NJ. and Susie (Kirk) Michael of Cazenovia; eight grandchildren, Sydney, Kalyn, Scott, Jack, Jesse, Jordan, Max and Melanie. There are no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. James Church, 6 Green St., Cazenovia. In lieu of flowers, a contribution in memory of Mr. Altmeyer may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous, 2513 James Street, Syracuse, NY 13206. Michael E. Brown Funeral Services has care of arrangements.
