Dear Sara, Sue and the rest of the Daggett family.
Jean was a volunteer reader for the Read-Out program for the Print Handicapped at WCNY/FM for several years when I was the coordinator for that program. She was a loyal, dedicated volunteer who showed up and did her reading, and brought smiles and joy to all she saw. Jean was one of my favorite volunteers (and I had 125 of them active most of the time) and she was a delight to talk to every day she came in. She was a regular, weekly volunteer for several years.
She invited me lunch with her in Cazenovia one day after we both retired from Read-Out and she walked me all over town introducing me to the library, her favorite stores, her church, and several people who knew her. We had a wonderful day and I have remembered our time together fondly over the years.
I attended Jean and Bills memorial service today and was amazed at how well Sara and Sue managed to talk about them without crying. It is something I would never be able to do and I admire you two women for being able to put your thoughts and feeling into words and be able to speak them out loud without blubbering like I would.
I would like to offer my sincere condolences to your whole family. How wonderful that neither of them had to spend time alone at the end of their lives. I wish the same for my husband and I, although we have a few years to go to get up to the number of years Jean and Bill spent together. Mike and I have been married for 52 years now and the time has flown by. Time goes faster every year or maybe I just move slower. At any rate, your mother was a sweetheart and you were lucky to have her in your lives for so long. When you are healthy, happy and busy you tend to live longer. I'm going to follow Jean's good example and stay busy with my hobbies, friends, and family for as long as I can. I'm still volunteering for Read-Out myself. I put myself on the schedule when I retired in 1999 and I plan on staying there, reading, till I can't see to do it any more. And then if I live long enough to use up the yarn and fabric that I have on hand, I'll have to live to be 150. I'm looking forward to that.
God bless your whole family.
Fondly,
Marian Carfagno

I worked at Smith and Cattery for the last ten years that they were open. Bill and I worked together on a regular basis. Those years were the most rewarding of my career. I enjoyed working with Bill as well as the others there. On the social occasions, my wife and Jean compared notes as fellow teachers. Jean was such a nice person. I had planned to attend the memorial service but we will be out of town. Please accept my condolences - Bill and Jean were two of the nicest people I have known.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Sara and Sue. One of the many conversations I had with your parents will always remain in my heart. What has kept you both together for over 60 years Bill and Jean? Your Mom says "Love, we are a team", Your Dad says, "She is always right and I love her." My hardest part of my job is saying goodbye to two very special people, TEAM DAGGETT God bless, Tracey Gulliver CNA

To the Daggett family, I am so sorry for the loss of your parents. Sara, you spoke so lovingly (and with some funny stories) of family and their mentorship, not only as your mom and dad, but in the community, over the years. I remember our conversations about parents, and how close you were to them. Your commitment to education and community was obviously nurtured at home. I hope your heart heals knowing they are together. What a blessing to have so much time together to create their life and family.
Thinking of you,
Maureen

Sara and Sue,
Reading your parents' obituary in Sunday's paper, I was moved by two emotions: melancholy over the news of death visiting a friend's family, and appreciation of lives well-lived. I also felt how appropriate that their their 63 years together closed as it did. It is an affirmation of the kind of commitment that, whether witnessed or experienced, makes us all better people.
While they will be mourned, they should also be celebrated and admired.
