Dick was a brilliant bridge player and a wonderful source of knowledge of the game. Rarely was there a question or solution to a bridge problem that he could not answer or solve. He will be missed by the many bridge players that he either played with, played against or he had mentored. I played with him many times as well as being his opposition in a game. He also had a wry wit that I enjoyed very much.

On and off the water, memories of Dick I hold in my heart are numerous! Dick immediately embraced me as part of the Lightning family at Willowbank YC and in turn became an honorary member of my family! His wit and humor were unsurpassed! His zest for life never wavered as he grew older nor his unwavering love for Sharye and his family. I am saddened by his passing more than I can express. My love is being sent across the miles to Sharye, and family as you celebrate Dick's life. Although I can't be with you for the calling hours and celebration memorial service, I will be thinking of you and praying for healing, and peace during this time of great loss. Debi Cramer

I was so sorry to see the news about Dick when I checked the Cazenovia Republican online this morning. Dick was one of a kind, and was a great supporter of my attempts to master Lightning sailing despite being a latecomer to it. There was always much to learn from his lifetime of knowledge of the winds on Cazenovia Lake. He also was one of Jason's favorite members at Cazenovia Club from his time working there. I extend my sincere condolences to Sharye and the Murphy family.

Dear Sharye and family, I am very sorry to read of Dick's illness and death. It seems only yesterday that I saw him skiing, or at a cultural event. He was a large presence and will be missed by family and the large community which he touched with his commitment. Celebrate his life as you mourn the loss of this compassionate and caring man. He has left his mark in the hearts of many...his legacy will live on in those he left behind.
