I AM SO DEEPLY SADDENED TO JUST HAVE LEARNED OF JEAN'S PASSING. HER BEST FRIEND, PATTI SCHRAMM WAS A DEAR FRIEND OF MINE, AND IT WAS THROUGH PATTI, THAT I GOT TO KNOW JEAN.
SHE WAS A KIND AND LOVING SOUL AND WAS DEVASTATED W/ PATTI'S PASSING. NOW THEY ARE NOT SUFFERING AND ARE TOGETHER IN HEAVEN, AT PEACE.
MY DEEPEST CONDOLENCES TO ALL OF JEAN'S FAMILY AND FRIENDS. MAY SHE AND PATTI REST IN PEACE TOGETHER WITH THE LORD. THEY LIT UP THE WORLD FOR US. AND WILL BE GREATLY MISSED.

I am so saddened to hear of Jean's passing. I worked with her at Legal Aid, and she was a delight to see and talk to everyday. She made my bad days better many times, especially when she would yell my nickname coming around the corner of my desk, and when she would joke about stealing my lunch, inside joke, lol. I was looking forward to having her meet my baby. :( She will be missed. Hugs to you all.

I was very saddened to hear of Jean's passing. I worked with Jean at Legal Aid both when I was a summer law clerk in the mid 1980's and as an Attorney in the late 1990's.No words can express how terrific she was to work with and to be around. In a sometimes stressful environment she could make any task seem more manageable with her ability, compassion, and sense of humor. It is an understatement that she will be missed. My condolences go out to all of her family and friends.

I am stunned to think that Jean is gone from among us, but truly confident that she is with people she loves and finding answers for the questions about our place among the stars. She shined brightly here and carried that light with her I am certain. She will be sorely missed by so many who loved and appreciated her. Her memory will be kept alive by all of us who were her friends, people she helped, those she worked with on so many issues she cared deeply about, so in that way she'll be with us forever. But I miss her.

As several have said, Jean was above all, kind and loving. We spent many rides to work sharing our lives, figuring out how to be wives and best of all, laughing at ourselves. It hurts to know I will not be with her again. She was one of the most spiritual people I've known. As Bette so well said, I think of her too with Pat and hope they both know how many lives they touched deeply. They will be carried in my heart forever. We never met without a "check in" about sisters...I feel so sorry for your loss Pat and Claire.

Without question, Jean was one of the kindest people I have ever know. Her caring nature, generosity, and deep compassion were extraordinary and touched many lives. For those of us who knew and loved her, it's hard to imagine the world without her loving presence.

Oh my dearest Jeanie, Sister of my heart,
I have been so blessed and lucky to have Jeanie in my life. She has been my rock and savior in so many ways. She has always been there for me as well as countless others who were in need. Jeanie was the most loving, kind, sweetest, generous, funniest, selfless person I knew and I will miss her forever. God be with my beautiful Jeanie.
All My Love,
Carol (Lil Sis of the Heart)

Jean was one of the sweetest women i know..Whenever I met with Patty Schramm our conversation always went to Jean. How sweet she was, how good she was.. Patty always wanted to make sure Jean and I kept in touch should anything happen to Patty. All I can think of is the two most important women in my life are now together in gods hands.. With a bottle of wine and many good laughs.. Thank you ladies for being a part of my life and knowing I have two of the best angels watching over me..

I am so sorry and shocked to hear of the passing of my dear friend, Shirley. She lived a wonderful life of compassion and caring for so many people and we will feel her loss with deep regret. Heaven is lucky to have her and I know she is there with my wife, Sybil, catching up on old times and fond memories.
I pray God will bless her family and those who have been close to her in their grief.

Jean was a lovely person, inside and out. Even during high school, she had the “calm presence” and ability to listen that would serve her well in her chosen profession. The last time we saw each other at a reunion, it was as if no time had passed at all. The world is a lesser place without Jean Shirley in it. My deepest sympathies to her family and friends.
