Obituary of Joan Bishop

Joan Marie (Raiber) Bishop, 81, of Manlius, passed away peacefully at Crouse Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 8, 1931 in Salamanca, NY, she was a graduate of Salamanca High School and Jamestown Business College. A beloved member of the Manlius United Methodist Church, she shared her talents singing in the choir and playing piano. She enjoyed camping, knitting, picnics, and playing games with her friends and family. Joan was predeceased by her parents, Ivan and Bessie Proctor and Glenn Raiber; granddaughter, Jennifer Coons; son-in-law, James Coons; and Uncle Mel and Auntie Elva Townsend. Surviving are daughters, Jana (Barry) Haas of Des Plaines, IL, Julia Coons of Middlebury, VT, Diana (Bruce) Cordes of Cazenovia and Linda (Joseph) Hernandez of Liverpool; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Kallie J Haas, Kristina M Hetland (Brian), Jeffrey M Coons (Rebecca),Jeremy G Coons, Jeffrey H Cordes (Gina Salvatore), Laura F Cordes, Molly M Denis (Grant) Eva A Denis, Cora G Denis Phoebe R Denis, Hannah C Aubertine (Timothy), Andrea C Mugaya (Jacob), Abby L Cordes (Kevin Joslin), Nelson Johnson and special cousin Richard "Mike" (Karen) Townsend. Some more of "Gramma Bishop's" favorites: Peter Lokai, Christine Bosco, God'sgift Achiuwa, Sunday Kulang, Ashley Hilyard, Jocelyn and Noah Frantz, and Godson, Nigel Delbert. Joan's life was a testimony to her Christian faith. She attributed the two-year extension of her life with Leukemia to the power of prayer. Her strength, determination, talents, insight, wisdom, generosity, playfulness, and unconditional love were an inspiration and have now become her legacy. To God Be the Glory! A funeral service will be held at 5 pm Friday November 23rd at the Manlius United Methodist Church, with time to greet the family immediately following.
