Werner was the person that taught me what it was and the many lessons we all need to learn to be a contributing member of this life. He was the first person to hire me for a real job. From the development of the NEC Art 500, the first drafts of which Werner created, to the many businesses and investing endeavors, his quiet well thought out approach was unique and brilliant at the same time. It was a very unassuming pragmatic approach that was truly profound at its core. I still have my original notes where he explains buck-boost transformers, galvanic metal interactions, and conduit fills. Truly insightful and applicable today. He was my first professional engineer sponsor, when I asked him if he would - he said "it would be an honor". The honor was all mine Werner. Thank you my friend.

I was so shocked and saddened by this news. I knew Werner when I worked at Stearns and Wheler and later when it became GHD. I had many great conversations with him. If I saw him in town we always spoke. I will miss him. My deepest sympathy to Shirley and all the family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dear Family: I always liked Werner although l only saw him on occasion. He belonged and remains in the league of Gordon (Wheler) and Donald (Stearns), for being intelligent and thoughtful. I can hardly believe that, as recently as late October 2020, he and I shared a table, 6 feet apart, at Madison County Historical Society for a primitive painting session. It was like a little homecoming. In loving memory, Carl D. Stearns, retired architect and twin son of Donald E. Stearns. PE.

Dear Shirley, Werner Jr, John and your wonderful family. We are so sad to hear of Werner’s passing and send our thoughts to all of you. The time raising our boys with all the great folks of Caz hockey was so special. Werner was such an important part of those years. Warm, funny, hard working, always leading the charge with Shirley, we will keep Werner forever close in our hearts. Susan and I heard the the sad news from the Caz Youth Hockey grapevine, as we should have: Evan called Micah and Corey who called us. I think this would bring a twinkle to Werner’s eyes ;-). With Love and respect, Don & Susan Flynn

Shirley and family,
I am so sorry to hear that Werner has passed. He was such a warm and wonderful man, always willing to lend a helping hand. All those hours inside hockey rinks all over CNY are some of my favorite memories. I'm sure his influence was a positive impact on those young men.
You are all in my thoughts.

Shirley and Kids;
Werner was certainly a good and dear friend. I will always remember our times together. My last fond memory was last year when we got to go out hunting, and although we didn't get anything, the joy of being outdoors with your friend and the conversations while we warmed up will never be forgotten. You are all in my heart and in my thoughts and will always be.
