Obituary of Hazel Elizabeth Shaw

Please share a memory of Hazel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Hazel Elizabeth Shaw, 13, passed away in her mother’s arms on April 7, 2021. Hazel was born on July 22, 2007 to Jason and Colleen Shaw, in Savannah, GA. Hazel was a pioneer since the day she was born and fought fiercely for every milestone she accomplished. Hazel broke barriers and surpassed expectations…she truly was amazing. Hazel was the cornerstone to her family. She left an impression on everyone she met, with her huge smile and genuine hug. She loved spending time with her sisters, enjoyed dance parties, musicals, and fireworks. Her family cherishes her memory as the gift it was and was blessed to have Hazel for 13 short years. Hazel is survived by her parents, Jason and Colleen Shaw; her sisters, Mabel and Pearl; her grandparents, Tom and Kim Dando and Ted and Pattie Shaw. She was loved and adored by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Hazel’s light shinned bright in the work of her many teachers, therapists, and teaching assistants. She will be missed by all her friends and holds a special place in her heart for her great friend Jessi Ramsey. Hazel’s family welcomes all to attend her Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday, April 12, 2021 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 259 East Onondaga St., Syracuse. Burial will be in Tully Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Michael E. Brown Funeral Services, 2333 Fenner Road in Cazenovia. Face coverings will be required. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Hazel’s Hope, Inc., a not for profit started by Hazel when she was seven years old to raise money to help other families of children with special needs. Donations can be sent to M&T Bank, 43 Albany St., Cazenovia, NY 13035. To leave a message of sympathy for the Shaw family, please visit www.michaelebrownfuneralservices.com.
