Betty Lou Van Derpool, 85, of Cazenovia, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, October 17, 2021. Betty was born to Raymond and Amy Schramm on July 2, 1936. Betty received her Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from Syracuse University. Betty kept very active throughout her life. She was an avid golfer and a dedicated member of the Cazenovia Country Club since 1970 where she made many lifelong friends. Betty served on the board as a secretary of the country club for six years. She was also an active member of the Syracuse Women’s District Golf Association (SWGDA) for many years. Betty enjoyed spending time with her family on the ski slopes. She was a member of the volunteer ski patrol at Mystic Mountain and Toggenburg Ski Center. Betty is survived by her daughters Barbara Van Derpool of Union Springs, Beth (Howard) Ryan of Cazenovia, Bonnie (Robert) Shepard of Highlands Ranch, CO, her two granddaughters Amy (Robert) Florez of Cincinnati, OH and Tracy Ryan of Cazenovia. She finally got a boy in her family with her great grandson, Evan Florez who brightened her life every day and she knew of the soon arrival of her second great grandson, Miles Florez. In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Robert Van Derpool. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, October 22, 2021 at Michael E. Brown Funeral Services, 2333 Fenner Road in Cazenovia. At the family’s request, please wear bright colors to honor Betty’s vivid personality.
