Mr. Gerbig was probably one of the best teachers I had the opportunity to have at Kendall High School. He had the rare ability to make the difficult easy to comprehend. He was always fair, and I was honored and privileged to have him for a teacher. The foundation he gave me in school made all my successes possible. His family, and the many communities he served should be exceedingly proud! May he rest in eternal peace.

Mr Gerbig was my Asst Principal at Albion High School. I have nothing but good memories of him there he was always always going above and beyond for the kids. There is one memory that since 1990 I always remember He told me that if I could stay out of his office and graduate that he would give me 5 bucks. Well as I crossed that stage in June of 1990. Got my diploma there stood with a huge smile towering over me was Mr Gerbig. He looks down at me smiles shook my hand and said you did it. Well in his hand when we shook was that 5 dollar bill. I have never forgotten about that

I graduated from Kendall school in 1967. Mr. Gerbig was my math teacher while in high school and absolutely loved math as well as Mr. Gerbig. I still am able to use a lot of what he taught in class and thank him every time for being such a wonderful and thoughtful instructor. I think God broke the mold when he created him. I’m so sorry for your loss.

I had Mr. Gerbig for Business Math. I was a sophomore and the class was mostly Senior guys. I'm not very quick at math but I learned to do interest calculations in my head. He made it easy. He would seat the students by their test grade. I always sat in back and the senior guys were in front. He was also a friend to my Dad, Don Koza.

I was saddened to hear of Mr. Gerbig's passing. I remember Mr. Gerbig from my years at Kendall School. He was a great teacher and a great person. I especially remember the dinner that the Juniors hosted for the community. I was at the door greeting people who came in. I was a little shy but he looked out of the door and told me to just be friendly to the next people coming in....it was MRS Gerbig and their three kids! He pulled a fast one on me! Also the time there was a pep rally in the gym at the old high school. Someone had brought some recorded music and he was dancing to "The Freddy", a song and dance from the late 60's. His long arms and legs were thrown up in the air like a gymnastic exercise and he was having a ball! Those memories have stayed with me for over 60 years and still bring me pleasant thoughts of one of my favorite teachers.

So sorry to hear of Mr. Gerbigs passing. He was such a great guy, wonderful Math teacher. He helped me immensely with course 1 math. He had a way of making you understand. He was stern but still understanding even if you were a student that struggled with Math. Thank you for making such an impact in so many lives.

I was the first girl to play high school sports for Kendall. I was a captain for the golf team that Mr. Gerbig coached. We had a lot of good times on that golf team, the best of which was the day Mr. Gerbig shot 45 and I shot 42.
He will be missed. My prayers will go to he and his family.

I was very sad to hear of Ben's passing. I loved him as my high school math teacher even though I did kick him in the leg once for pulling a pop quiz on us. He and I did give a couple of professors a hard time in our graduate classes. He will be truly missed. Carolyn Salvatore

Ben was a tall daunting man, who's height and character served him well as vice principal of Albion High School, not the easiest job in any school system. But under the stern facade was a gentle man with a heart that always put kids first. I served as Social Studies Dept. Chair and in that capacity I had many, many confidential conversations with Ben concerning problems and issues. I was aways impressed with his common sense and straight forward approach to problem solving.
Ben's job as vice principal included writing annual observations for teachers. Like many people, I have never felt comfortable being evaluated and was a bit stressed the first time he walked into evaluate me. He took a seat in the back of the room and started writing and he didn't stop the whole 90 minutes. When we met after the class he had a four-page typed report on what he saw. I have never been so fairly evaluated !!! He listed and expounded on everything I did right including my room layout, the screen I used and the taped map I taught from in the center of the floor. Ben was comprehensive, through and complete. He saw things that others would miss. He was sensitive to the energy in the classroom and he understood how to motivate teachers. Ben was always welcome in my room !!! More than a vice principal, Ben was a friend who's door was always open. Rest in peace good friend... you are missed

Ben always made learning fun! I’m so thankful he was a principal I subbed for and he urged me to go back to get my teaching degree! I thought of him often over my years as a teacher.
I was also thrilled to be asked by him to babysit the family! I loved being with “the kids” in Albion and Kendall.
My heart goes out to all of you. ❤️

JoAnn and Gerbig family, my thoughts and prayers go out you. I have some wonderful memories of Mr. Gerbig. I had Mr. Gerbig for Business Math. One of the best classes. If Mr. Gerbig had not tutored me, I would not have passed the Proficiency exam at Roberts Wesleyan. I enjoyed playing basketball against him when the teachers came to play us at practice. We had many one-on-one games. I probably would have fouled out in a game. He was always pushing and shoving. He told me he was helping my game. May you rest in peace Mr. Gerbig. Thanks for the memories.

I graduated from Kendall Central in 1984. Mr. Gerbig was my 12th grade math teacher as well as my homeroom teacher throughout high school. Whenever I had a question on my math homework, I would ask for help during homeroom and Mr. Gerbig always took the time to work through my question with me. Then in math class he went over those same questions I had in class. I think that is the sign of a good teacher, assuming if I had a question, I probably wasn’t the only one who did.
I will remember Mr. Gerbig as a big towering man, who was a wonderfully helpful teacher with a good sense of humor. When he was coaching, he was very focused and competitive.
I’m very grateful to have had him as my teacher and the contribution he made to Kendall’s sporting success.
RIP Mr. Gerbig and thanks for all you did for your students!
My prayers and condolences to the family.

I was a high school student at Albion when Mr. Gerbig was vice principal. His height was rather daunting but inside he was a dear man who always wanted the best for the students. I remember getting called to his office once for doing something good for another student. The idea of entering his office scared me. He kept a perfectly straight, stern face until he couldn't contain the twinkle in his eye. I will be praying for you as you go through this time of loss.
