My condolences to Marcia’s family. How happy she was to see her daughters and grandchildren grow into adulthood and share stories of life in Caz. I was to fortunate to work with Marcia in Avon CT Public Schools, in her “rise” from retirement. She was always hard working in the classroom; empathetic with challenging students and encouraging staff. She continued to read and learn well into her senior years. I recall her amazement with an elementary history unit on Lewis and Clark…it was new content for her and she was hooked! Off to the library she went…
What a terrific model Marcia is for a life well lived. I am honored to have been a friend and colleague.

I have very fond memories of Mrs. Helbig from growing up on Chenango Street. When not tending her garden, she was whipping up a strawberry-rhubarb pie from scratch or riding into town on her bike to do errands -- in a skirt, no less! Her collection of ticking antique clocks on the mantelpiece mesmerized me and my sister. To this day, when we see a fine clock in an antique shop, we'll look at each other and say, "Remember Mrs. Helbig?" At Mass, her light operatic singing voice would float over your head during the hymns (although it seems this was a source of mortification for her daughters). A lovely lady from a more genteel era, she was an inspiration to us all. God rest her soul.

Mrs. Helbig was my first teacher.
I remember seeing her at the grocery store (Great American) when I was her student and I was so upset that she wasn't in our kindergarten room. Like most children. I thought she lived there. (Kindergarten was in the Town & Country plaza).
She invited me to her house on a Saturday to meet her daughters and have lunch and see where she lived. Each time I would see her in Cazenovia, we would share a laugh at this story.
A few years ago I bought something from people on the Caz Facebook page. I was so happy to fetch this item as I explained the couple lives in Mrs. Helbig's house.
I will forever remember her as the most caring and kind woman.
I pray for peace and comfort to her wonderful daughters and grandchildren as they say goodbye to this woman who established such a legacy in our little town.

Marcia was adored by the Fessenden family! She was an inspirational and generous aunt to her seven nieces and nephews. She was creative, energetic, brave, and loving. I hope I have half of her joie de vivre when I am her age. :-) She will be greatly missed! Wishing love and comfort to the Helbig family.
