Sally was a wonderful organist for our church in Cazenovia. She also taught my daughter and me some piano. On top of being a musician for the church she was like a deacon. She kept up on those who were sick or had lost a loved one on her own. What a huge heart she had! I’m so good to have known her.

Sally, you are one of my oldest friends in Syracuse. I will always appreciate your service on the Civic Morning Musicals board, and it was during my presidency that I realized what a loving, steadfast friend you were. You also contributed to the life of my son Richard, who even as a little boy came to love and appreciate you for the years he saw you and spent time at your home for your wonderful babysitting. I will always treasure my memories of you.

Sally has been a friend and mentor for many years. She has lent support in challenging times and shared in happiness in moments of celebration. She volunteered much of her time to community organizations supporting the arts. She was also a very fine cook, often bringing something delicious like lemon poppy seed cake to annual board meetings. She enjoyed world cuisine, and I remember her affinity for Thai and Mediterranean dining.
She has been a great teacher and musician with an enormous heart who has shared her wisdom and kindness with me and so many others. May she ever be surrounded by peace, love, positivity, and blessings.

Sally befriended me, my two rambunctious boys and baby girl when I joined her Unitarian choir in '69. We explored the Bristol Hills and Canandaigua Lake, checking out old cemeteries and scenic overlooks. I transferred into Eastman, graduating a year after her. We reconnected a few years later, when I moved to the Syracuse area. I helped her with the Vivaldi Gloria, she lent me Pergolesi's Stabat Mater. We had wonderful conversations over the years in Cazenovia and Syracuse. She texted me in October. In one of her last notes she wrote: "I'm still nocturnal. Most likely because I didn't have kids!!!! Someone has to guard the night. And I still collect Angels and believe in them. I know that we all have one with us!!!"
RIP, dear Sally, or dance and sing!

From Marsha Johnson, Placerville, CA
I celebrate Sally's unique presence in my life and give thanks for our many years of friendship.
We met as teenagers in 1963 when Sally’s Modesto California high school had a ‘senior ditch day.’ Sally and two of her school friends drove up to the very new Skyline High School in Oakland California where their beloved choral teacher, Gladys Crane, was now teaching. It was a happy reunion for them with Mrs. Crane and they loved participating in her music classes that day.
Mrs. Crane asked me to give them a tour around our beautiful new high school campus. The next year I ran into Sally at the music department at San Francisco State College where we both attended. Our friendship evolved and we’ve kept in touch and visited coast to coast over these 58 years. We shared our ups and downs, our loves and losses, and the unfoldings of our lives.
I’m very grateful to “Team Sally” for being present with her through her final months. I expect she’ll be on hand to welcome me into the next dimension when my time comes….
Gratefully,
Marsha Johnson

I sang in the choir at Caz Press when Sally was our organist and choir director.
Victoria, what a beautiful photo and memories of Sally. Nancy, you are so correct that Sally's obit forgot to mention Sally's love of SU Men's basketball. I had the pleasue of bringing Sally to my great seats in section 108 (right behind the SU bench). The last time I brought Sally to the Dome, I used a wheelchair for her. Sally was in tears when we got to our seats..she said "I never thought I'd be back in the Dome again." At Tuesday's game against Pitt, I brought Neva Pilgrim. We played an excellent second half and won the game. I knew Sally was up in heaven cheering the Boeheim brothers!!!
I will miss Sally on my birthday because she always called me. And for my Dad's later birthdays, Sally would come to my house in Caz and bring her special cake..somewhere I have a wonderful photo of my Dad and Sally.
Maybe now she is playing tennis again!!!

When Sally's sister Nancy heard that I was from Syracuse, she gave me Sally's contact information. After that, whenever I was in Syracuse to visit my family, a stop at Sally's home was on the list. One January, while I was there for my Mom's birthday, Sally invited us to her house to see the Famous Angel Christmas Tree. She'd kept it decorated until mid-month just so Mom could enjoy it. I think we spent about two hours just gabbing!
After that, all my birthday greetings to her included lots of angels. The last time I was there, it was obvious that her health was gradually failing. She had trouble climbing the stairs in her beautiful Victorian-era home, so she moved her bed to the first floor. Then I learned that she moved to assisted living, thanks to her friends who helped her make the decision.
Sally was bigger than life. You definitely knew when she was in the building! I'm sorry that her light has gone out... seven months (minus one day) after my Mom passed away. I can see Sally playing the organ in Heaven while Mom twirls around on the dance floor.

As is known, Sally was my life partner for nearly 24 years! Together, we performed all those years of fantastic Christmas and put up the Angel Tree & all the Joyous Easter services , countless weddings, memorial services, TIP services. In our home, we entertained our siblings, our “adopted girls” Crystal & Allison, our nieces, nephews , great nieces & nephews and friends. We had grand parties & dinners. Ween we weren’t teaching, producing or performing, we traveled , went to opera, theatre, and museums. Enjoyed meeting and entertaining A listers like I Perlman, Jon Nakamatsu, & Robin Williams! We had a wonderful life together. ❤️

This obit says a lot about Sally, but It misses one big point. All of you who knew Sally, knew she was a huge sports fan. She loved her Syracuse Orange basketball games. Boeheim was definitely her favorite coach.
Sally joined a tennis club in her early 30’s and played in many doubles games. She was a high B player and subbed in the A devision. Sally played until her knees gave out. She never tired of watching all the major tennis events on TV and she even attended the US Open a few times.

My husband, oliver, and I met Sally when we lived in westcott in the early 1990’s. I started taking piano lessons with her, which turned into gab sessions about the world, which later included a glass of wine as we solved all the worldly problems!
We haven’t spent enough time with Sally in the last few years, but when I thought of her, I pictured that beautiful smile, quick laugh, and her soft spoken, thoughtful way she engaged in discussions. She will be missed.
